Chickasaw Community Bank mourns the passing of our esteemed board member, William G. “Bill” Paul. For over two decades, Mr. Paul served as a Board Director with unwavering dedication and a deep belief in our mission of Building Better Lives for Everyone. His thoughtful counsel and steady leadership helped shape the growth and direction of our institution, and we are deeply grateful for his lasting contributions.
A proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Paul began his journey in service after graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1954. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and served on active duty for two years, including time stationed in Korea, notably reflecting the leadership and courage integral to his heritage. After transitioning to the Marine Reserves, he rose to the rank of Colonel, further illustrating his lifelong commitment to duty, discipline, and honor.
A descendant of Smith Paul, founder of Pauls Valley, and of a Chickasaw senator who led through Indian Territory’s challenges, Mr. Paul carried forward a profound legacy of service. He rose to become President of the American Bar Association, helping to strengthen the legal profession across the United States and abroad. Yet, it was his enduring service to the Chickasaw people that reflected the heart of his work. Mr. Paul championed tribal sovereignty, supported the development of the Chickasaw Peacemaking Court, and consistently advocated for values of community, restoration, and respect. He spoke with pride about the Chickasaw Nation’s leadership in health care, education, culture, and economic progress.
Believing deeply in the power of future generations, Mr. Paul established the William G. Paul Scholarship, opening doors for Chickasaw students to pursue higher education and leadership in business and finance. That same care and vision were evident in his work with our bank, where his influence will continue to be felt for years to come.
Mr. Paul lived with quiet strength and unwavering integrity. His legacy lives on through the institutions he helped build and the lives he uplifted. We honor him with deep gratitude and lasting respect.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life.
